In the IVovel system the damage a weapon does is based on the Weapon Group it belongs to. The first number next to a weapon groups listed below is the amount of Body Damage, the second number is the Distraction amount. There are weapons that can be used in dirrerent groups. A gladius for instance can be weilded so that it staps the foe or it can slash them. If a character is using one of these weapons they will need to decide what group they are currently using.
All weapons desinged for battle require special training in order to be used effectively. This training is acomplished through the specialization system. If your character is using a weapon they are not trained in treat it as an improvised weapon.

This group consists of weapons that have a sharp blade intended to be drawn accross the enemy. They require more effort to dodge or deflect but do less damage when they hit.
Ranged weapons are not suitable for duels. The Traits needed to use each group are detailed below. the base challenge level to hit your target is 2. The CL is raised by 1 for light cover (such as another character engaged with the target) to a maximum of 4 for heavy cover (such as an arrow slit). The range of the shot also raises the CL by 1 per range increment.
Characters that are being attacked by ranged weapons can declare that they are actively dodgeing/deflecting the attacks. The sucess check is a Speed and Perception check. The number of success adds to the challenge level facing the attacker.
